But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
